The artist first rode horses with his mates at the age of 10 in the bush around Chillingham, in Northern New South Wales, Australia He went on to run Australia’s Horse of the Year in 1987, ‘Research’ and has been an avid student of the cowboy and his way of life as long as he can recall. Anything with a horse must be a great painting. Hagan has pursued the horse over two continents, USA and Australia While he sees a difference in the trappings of the modern horseman those that ‘live the life in the saddle’ are the same irrespective of location. ‘It’s the commitment that is common to all’, he claims. ‘Yet I paint the differences wherever and whenever I see them to preserve the authenticity of each’.
